Overview:

This role will be a hybrid corporate/litigation paralegal and administrative support. We are a team of five attorneys and this will be our first and only non-attorney staff role. Your job will vary on a day to day basis and encompass anything from reviewing corporate by-laws for corporate process requirements, to reviewing hours of police body camera footage, to reviewing billing time-entries. We are looking for support in corporate diligence for venture capital financings, discovery for various litigation matters, support in the research and preparation of asylum claims and other immigration relief, as well as billing and other administrative tasks.


Basic Responsibilities:

  • Track, maintain and help to coordinate paper and electronic document collections, reviews and productions, and client flies, including corporate minute books, board books and stock records.

  • Calendar and maintain deadline-driven documents and filings

  • Assist with the organization and maintenance of corporate closing and data rooms, whether physical or electronic.

  • Participate in the drafting, editing and preparation of board meeting agendas, minutes and compilation of board materials

  • Create and implement case file and organizational systems for litigation matters.

  • Prepare for and attend depositions, hearings, trials and arbitrations, as necessary.

  • Compile, review and analyze documents as required by attorneys.

  • Perform research (factual, legal, internet, and other) to identify issues and relevant matters and prepares compilation of findings.

  • Assist with preparation of court filings including, but not limited to, fact checking legal briefs, citation checking for accuracy, and assembling of exhibits and appendices.

  • Prepare drafts of form legal documents including for immigration relief and other matters.

  • Manage office related tasks as necessary

  • Provide billing support for legal team on a monthly basis.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated high achievement in their education and career, and will have at least a bachelor’s degree, with a slight preference given to language related fields of study, such as English, history, or philosophy. Prior paralegal or legal support experience is a plus, but we will prioritize demonstrated ability over past experience.

Compensation:

Thomas Oakley offers a competitive compensation package, including 3% 401k contribution as well as healthcare and dental coverage. Salary range: $60,000 - $80,000 depending on qualifications and experience

Working Conditions:

You will be expected to primarily work in our office in Somerville, MA, located at 285 Washington Street near Union Square. We often provide remote work opportunities during slower work cycles, but you should also be prepared to work nights and weekends if a matter requires it.
